It could be married segment logic. Another possibility is that different airlines are selling the same flights as codeshares and charging different prices. For example, I can sometimes book the same exact Alaska Airlines flight through American Airlines and save $20.

Is it called the married segments?

Most airlines do not release all of their award space to their partners. Often award space is divided into a saver level and a full price (anytime) level. Only the saver level is made available to partners, and even then it is possible that the airline may not release all of it to a partner.

The best way to find out what space is being made available to a partner is to search on the partner, not the operating airline. If the AA website isn’t working for you, then search on another partner — again, there are some variations, but typically all partners get access to the same availability.

Did I need to hang up and call back? BTW found something better

You don’t. Both carriers (British Airways and American Airlines) fly to London and can be booked with American Airlines’ AAdvantage miles.

American Airlines doesn’t, either, except for flights on British Airways. Both carriers fly to London and both can be booked with American Airlines’ AAdvantage miles

how do you book united flights w aa miles? or did i misread that?
