Sounds great! I’ll be talking about mileage runs and calendar searches in a future post.

I didn’t care what weekend as long as the price was right. I used ITA matrix and found the cheapest weekend to fly PDX – LAX – SEA – ANC – SEA – LAX – PDX. Using those dates and flight numbers, I used the multiplicity option at Alaska.com to book for $330.00. I got a boatload of miles and cleared the first class waitlist on four of the six flights.

I need (4) RT to fly from DFW (dec 15) to KHI (Jan 6th). IATA shows (1) ticket for $1,595 with one stop in AUH. I have tried various website including (https://bookwithmatrix.com) to book this ticket with no luck. Can you please help me how to book this ticket with the fare shown at IATA matrix? Thanks a bunch

Glad you found the error.

I generally avoid searching for or booking travel by phone. Most travel providers have not created good mobile apps, and the larger problem is that the number of options required to create a good search result does not lend itself well to the limited space of a mobile device.

I first generated a search on my phone, I found nonstop from JFK to CUN for less than $280. Thinking this was a steal, I was very eager to find where to buy it but the only prices I found for the flights I wanted were practically $600+. I generated a new search using ITA matrix but this time on my computer. The results found reflected the price tag I didn’t want. I went back to my phone to see if I could find the same fares from my first search and I did. I had my friend do the same. We both found higher prices on the computer and lower prices through our phone. Do you know why this may be? I’m assuming there must be some kind of error while using ITA matrix on a phone but part of me wants to believe that these low fares actually exist and I’m not experienced enough to understand how to find the price that matches.

Since the price isn’t an issue, searching for the trip you want is straightforward.

I looked for a one-way ticket (you don’t have return dates), and I entered YEG as my “Departing from” and HRE as my “Destination.” For advanced routing codes I entered “SEA DXB” to force at least two connections in those cities. It isn’t really necessary to enter specific carriers or flight numbers since not many airlines fly from YEG to HRE.

The specific flights you asked for ended up as number two or three in the results list. Note that EK713 from DXB to HRE actually stops in LUN on the way.

thanks for responding Scott.
the flights im searching are as follows:
YEG to HRE

Edmonton (YEG) to Seattle (SEA) — Thu, Feb 16Alaska Airlines 2543Dep: 1:17 pm
Arr: 2:18 pm

Seattle (SEA) to Dubai (DXB) — Thu, Feb 16Emirates 230Dep: 5:10 pm
Arr: 7:45 pm

Dubai (DXB) to Harare (HRE) — Sat, Feb 18
Emirates 713
If possible please take me step by step on how to entre these flights so i can see the better flights.

I noticed that when i searched for the flight on cheapoair it was for business class but had select first class for ITA Matrix hence the reaosn why it showed a higher price. so my mistake.

I’m not sure what you mean by more expensive. ITA doesn’t sell tickets, so it has no reason to list higher prices. Can you provide me with specific flights on specific dates that are more expensive than another source?

Yes, you can do a date range. See the post on Other Features.

https://travelcodex.com/other-ita-features/

You can search for a trip of X days (e.g., 7 days, or 3-5 days) and combine that with a month-long search (30 days from a date of your choice). If you are able to travel during multiple months, then repeat the search for each month.

I have a pretty flexible schedule and would like to search a wide range of dates (months) from airports in my area (Clt, Rdu, Gso) to cancun, Cozumel, Belize, etc… Is it possible to do a date range as such?

Error fares and fuel dumps are generally found through trial and error. Sometimes they exist. Sometimes they do not.

If you’re trying to perform a fuel dump, you’ll need to do a multi-city search. The return journey will be segments 1 and 2, and the 3X will be segment 3.

If you want any other kind of flight, a standard round-trip search will work. You don’t need to combine any flights. Just search from one or more cities in Europe to one or more cities in South America. The tool will find open jaws automatically if you give it more than one city to work with. For example, search from London or Paris (LHR, CDG) to Sau Paulo or Rio de Janeiro (GRU, GIG).

Any suggestions?
