Would you switch now?

We were about to get the Blue Cash Preferred but we may have to rethink this…

The difference is that Blue earns single points on most purchases and double points on select travel purchases. When I said that the EveryDay and EveryDay Preferred cards are similar to Blue Cash, I meant that the category bonuses and limits are similar.

The Blue card has no annual fee, but doesn’t provide any point bonuses and doesn’t allow you to transfer points between MR and airline programs. Sounds like an intriguing new Amex offering.

If you don’t care about the sign-up bonus, ask the rep if it’s possible to downgrade your existing card without applying for a new one.

If you do want the sign-up bonus, then it would be wise to apply for the new card before closing the first one. All cards that earn Membership Rewards credit to the same Membership Rewards account. If you close the only card that’s earning Membership Rewards, there’s a risk you’ll lose those points already earned.

Amex has also been known to offer grace periods before closing Membership Rewards accounts or to reactivate balances when you apply for a new card that starts earning them again. Frankly, I’d play it safe and just apply for the new card first.

Can I open one of these and merge/ transfer the MR points? Do I need to open this one first, if so? I’ve been looking for an every day card. Thanks.
