Well that’s true, it’s better to use the companion fare on more expensive tickets. I was trying to say that long flights are not necessarily more expensive. Short flights can be expensive too. It really depends on the cities you fly between and when you book.

sorry I may have worded this wrong. I meant save $ using Alaska companion fare. The less expensive trips don’t seem to worth the use. It’s better to use the companion fare for more expensive trips, save a higher %. SMF-PDX saver 17% savings, SMF PDX main 21%, Tam-PDX 37%. In other words, the % of savings is higher for more expensive flights.
Thanks for taking time to comment, Barry

Incorrect. Expensive fares exist all the time, even on short routes. Long routes can be cheap if there is lots of competition and low demand. Short routes can be expensive if there is no competition and high demand.

I’ve seen the same route vary between $300 and $800 depending on time of year and when I’m booking.

It looks like the only way to save very much $ is to fly far away. A simple trip from let’s say SFO-PDX saves about $30 or $40. A very long trip let’s say Florida to Alaska will save about 30%. Am I correct?

Haha! No offense intended. My first trip trough there many years ago, I had a 5-6 hour layover with nothing to do. I remember a lot of white floors, white ceilings, white frosted glass, and in the few areas I could see out, there were grey and white clouds. Several areas were blocked off, so I really only had access to about 6 gates. A nice airport, but from my perspective about as boring as possible.

Regular reader. I was wondering how Pearson got labelled “Great White Tomb”. My hometown is Toronto and just curious.
Thanks!
