This was my first time on SA and I was really looking forward to seeing the #1 rated level of service. Big disappointment! First of all, no Amenity kit! Then economy class meal, crew was non-existent most of the rest of the flight. Seat was, however, one of best for this class of service. All in all, no reason to go back as there are many others who do a better job.

Hoping to have a “poor man’s” bed by sleeping across multiple PE seats.

Overall, the experience was very good. In my estimation it is well worth the extra money. Would I fly PE on Singapore again? Yes, if the price was right. But I think saving my points for Business Class would be better way go. I suppose that is somewhat obvious.

Things I liked –
The small cabin made things more cozy and quiet. The seats were superior to those in economy. Despite the fact that they are nearly the same width as those in Economy, they felt wider due to the extra arm rest room. The recline and foot rests on these seats is very good. Most of the positives of the PE seats are outlined in the article above, which does a great job describing things. I also like the fact that we boarded with Business Class. That was an added perk that I liked.

Things I didn’t like –
I have been told that Singapore has the best cabin service in the industry. I did not experience that at all. In-fact, our cabin service was quite mediocre. The author notes this in the article as well. The reason for mediocre service occurred to me on the flight home. You see, Premium Economy is sandwiched between two cabins (Economy and Business). They assign only two stewardesses to the PE cabin. However, those two stewardesses get pulled into the other cabins to assist at beverage and meal times. PE kinda gets the short shrift on service. Don’t get me wrong. The service was far superior to the usual inter-US airline service where they chuck a bag a peanuts at your head. But I did not find the service on Singapore to be legendary.

Things to watch out for –
My family (3 people total) flew on the B-777-300ER. On this plane the PE seat rows are a bit offset. This means that Row 34 in the middle 4 seats is across and very slightly behind from Row 33 seats on the outside. Keep this in mind if you want to sit across the aisle from someone and be able to communicate. I sat in 34G and my wife/son sat in 33H/33K. Other rows in the cabin are similarly offset. We ended up across from one another and could communicate the whole trip. Most seating charts online will NOT indicate this, so be careful.

Overhead bin space fills up very quickly due to the fact it is a rather small cabin. On our two flights, everyone got space in the bins. However, I would recommend getting on early if you want your “stuff” in the bin closest to your seat.

I earned 20,494 miles for this booking (not including my SQ Gold elite bonus) and I credited them to KrisFlyer.

I sure as hope heck you mean bread BOWL!!!

Anyway, funny thing is, back in 1996, my sister and I flew SQ in Economy Minus to India and back for ~$1,600. Pretty amazing how much prices have come down on flights to Asia.
